In an almost empty house once inhabited by strangers, surfaces, objects and traces of everyday life acquire an unexpected presence. Photographed frontally and printed at life size, these fragments turn individual memories into signs that invite connections with the viewer’s own experience.
2008
Commissioned by: Municipality of Losone, Arcegno, Canton Ticino, Switzerland
Ruins of houses used during a plague epidemic in Canton Ticino are photographed with a digital pinhole camera. Printed on ceramic tiles, the images are broken, reassembled and photographed again. The resulting photographs connect the fragility of these remnants with that of representation itself.
2007
Produced for Acquainvista, a photographic commission promoted by the Municipality of Bari and curated by Carlo Garzia.
At the saltworks, reflections, mineral deposits and shifts of colour unsettle the boundaries of the landscape. The photographs record a space that is tangible yet elusive, where the processes of salt production take on abstract forms.
2005–2006
Commissioned by: Associazione Amici di Lalla Romano, Demonte and the Stura Valley, Italy
In Demonte and the Stura Valley, the series follows the places of Lalla Romano’s childhood. After the interiors of her Milan home in Paesaggi d’assenza, attention turns to the landscapes, atmospheres and colours that helped shape her sensibility as a writer and painter.
2005
Commissioned by: R.U.R.A.L.I.A. — Associazione Italiana per il Recupero Unitario delle Realtà Agricole e dei Luoghi, Val Borbera, Italy
Stone houses, barns, churches and a small cemetery retain traces of life in the mountain villages of Val Borbera. The photographs observe what remains after the depopulation associated with the economic and social changes of the 1950s and 1960s.
2004
Commissioned by: Cultural Heritage Department of the Municipality of Cagli, Cagli, Italy
Sections of the walls of Palazzo Tiranni-Castracane are isolated and printed at life size. Rather than offering an overall view of the rooms, the photographs allow surfaces, marks and layers to evoke the building’s history and atmosphere.
