Alessandro Vicario Between the Folds

The work of Modena-born Alessandro Vicario displays a pronounced objectivism, one might say of German inspiration. Yet a close reading of Frammenti domestici tra memoria e oblio reveals a gentle vein of lyricism, his discreet presence as he reflects on the passage of time: imperceptible, yet betrayed by small signs such as worn wallpaper or dust between tiles. This attention to detail becomes a careful choice of tools: “I work with a large-format camera,” he says, “which allows a fine reproduction of details, while also encouraging a reflective state of mind and meticulous care for particulars.”
